DJ equipment packagesThe path of the DJ can be fun, entertaining and profitable all at once, but before you can embark upon it, you will need to make sure that you are able to stand toe to toe with all of the other rising stars out there, all of whom want their own piece of the dance floor. If you really want to be the best you’re going to need to make sure you have a decent set of starting equipment. When you are ready to buy DJ equipment as a digital DJ, the first thing you need to recognize is that things are a bit different now than they once were.

We’re dealing with an entirely digital concept rather than physical. That being said, instead of dealing with vinyl or CD’s, you’ll typically have a computer or some other device that is able to play the digital files for you. Let’s take a look at some of the equipment you’re going to need in order to continue your quest to become the best DJ in the industry. It might take you a little while to get there, but a strong start doesn’t hurt.

Your Computer

As a digital DJ you’re going to need to make sure you have a computer, but there are a few very specific things that you are going to need to focus on. First of all, it’s going to need a big hard drive. There is a strong chance that you will be keeping quite a bit of your music on the hard drive, and for this reason you need to have one that not only boasts a high capacity, but also a fast access rate. It is strongly recommended that you seek a hard drive of 7200 RPM or above, though you can cut that out entirely by seeking a solid state drive.

Additionally, you will need a computer running the latest operating system to ensure that you’re able to run the newest control software. Finally, if you want to add a little more functionality to your setup, try buying an external hard drive to expand your storage – it will work wonders for you.

Audio Interface

Though this might not be standard in all DJ equipment packages, an audio interface is a great way to make up for the failings of the typical laptop computer sound card. If you’re just starting out, there is a good chance that you didn’t drop ten thousand dollars for the latest and greatest in equipment, and with that  being the case, you’re going to need a way to make up for the deficient sound card in your equipment. An audio interface is a great way to not only boost the sound quality of your laptop but also give you more control over the music being played.

DJ Controller

While this isn’t really a hard requirement for being a digital DJ, it certainly helps and you should definitely consider getting one. In many cases you can do this all on your laptop, but sometimes, having full control over your audio, without the need for a mouse can be very beneficial. Take a look at some of the beginner DJ controllers and get a feel for it before you commit to a full blown professional model. There are many DJ’s who would argue that this type of hardware is absolutely necessary, and they might just be right.

Cables

DJ equipment packagesYou can have the best equipment in the world when you buy DJ Equipment but it won’t work out if you don’t have the right cables. The most basic equipment will use RCA, though there are more balanced connections like the XLR which will ensure you have better sound quality. Always make sure you have cables, and most importantly, make sure that you have backup cables.

Speakers

As always, you need speakers to output sound, and you must make sure that you seek out the best for your DJ’ing purposes. Home speakers do not provide the same output as DJ speakers, and with that being the case, always look for self-powered that will give you the maximum output.

There are many other pieces of equipment, some expensive, some cheap, and some higher quality than others. Do your research and make sure you find the right equipment to complete your setup.
